Brashear Tournament Saturday February 9, 2008
Due to weather postponements earlier in the week, the Brashear tournament featured 7 games Saturday.
In Saturday action, the Putnam County JV boys defeated the Hannibal JV boys 52-51 to take 7th place, the Novinger girls downed Putnam County JV 69-39 for consolation, and the Macon County boys edged Novinger 60-58 for consolation.
The Brashear Lady Tigers trailed the Knox County Lady Eagles 6-5 after one quarter of the girls 3rd place game. Knox County still led 18-16 at halftime and 31-30 after 3 quarters. Brashear then outscored Knox County 16-13 in the final frame to take the win 46-44. Hailee Kelsey led the Lady Tigers with 17 points, Jessi Hill had 10, Stephanie Elsea had 9, Emily Ladwig had 5, Abby McKim had 4, and Caroline Slavin scored 1 point. For Knox County, Stacey Leckbee had 11, Becca Mallett had 9, Lorrie Peters and Amber Ausmus had 8 each, Tessa Ramer had 6, and Katie Ausmus scored 2 points.
The Brashear Tigers and Knox County Eagles also squared off in the boys championship game. Knox County led 17-11 after one quarter and 32-28 at halftime. The Tigers still trailed by only six 51-45 after 3 quarters, but faded in the 4th quarter as Knox County claimed the tournament title with the 77-62 win. For Brashear, Trae Treasure had 19 points, Jacob Shipman added 10, Kale Watson had 9, Justin Hazen and Kiley Watson had 8 points each, Ryan Ferdig had 5, and Matt Thomas scored 3 points. Knox County was pace by Daniel McMahon with 22 points, Cory Shultz had 19, Dennis Dent had 15, Zach Parrish had 13, Mitchel Penn had 4, and Shane Clouse and Lucas Hudson scored 2 points each.
In other Saturday evening action, the North Shelby girls topped Marion County 42-30 for the girls title and Marion County beat North Shelby 57-40 in the boys 3rd place game.
